Penguicon 6.0 Report

Penguicon 6.0 was great for those of you who missed it there will be another but as always there is nothing like the last convention....

First and foremost I had an opportunity to meet many of my friends in Dementialand. I am sure we may have brushed elbows at conventions in the past but since we share many evenings listening to the shows on Dementia Radio it was especially fun to meet and have faces to go with the names.

Everyone who knows me knows at conventions I am music-biased, which is strange as I could tell you until very recently I was very naïve or rather had a very narrow sense of music (blame my iPod).

Ever since my first con introduction to Filk by Tom Smith and to Dementia by Blasted Bill I have been “hooked on the Classics” let’s just say theFuMP and all the artists (Tom Smith, Rob Balder, Luke Ski, Worm Quartet and Soggy Potato Chips) individual concerts were “teh awesome” and leave it at that.

The Singing Tesla Coils were incredible, I got to enjoy them from afar on the balcony of my hotel room overlooking the gazebo. You can see them much closer HERE.

Much more fun then I will recount here. Great conversation, good eats (Brazilian Beef) and many hugs and waves to friends who are that extended dysfunctional family I love known as fandom.

Merchandise you ask? I bought Bureau13 D20 some Rob Balder and Soggy Potato Chips CDs to support the artists and cashed in some Whuffie rewards for some time spent helping and got the Penguicon T-shirt, I also bought March of Dimes/March for Babies raffle tickets and many midnight munchies too! Those Trck or Treat cookies were to die for!!!

Frankly Penguicon always comes up on top in my estimation. Yes, each year I give the staff way too much credit (the other local Michigan area conventions deserve as much recognition for their efforts) still it is quite a task to get this unique distillation of Open Source and Sci Fi & Fantasy to work. You have some very passionate special people working very hard and ultimately Penguicon proves once more that a great convention may not organize chaos but can focus it and make the end product concentrated fun.

All that and Open Cola and Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream too!

*hugs you*

Thanks for the compliment.

Did you notice anything in particular that we could make better? Or what the chaos was so we might be able to fix it?

I'm sorry I only got to see you for like.... 5 seconds too. :(

*hugs back*

I'll give it some thought but do not misinterpret my use of "chaos"... for me chaos is that creativity unchained that is the enthusiasm of fandom. Not a bad thing at all really!
